About the event

If you’re blind or partially sighted and want to know what parkrun is all about, then this is the event for you. No experience is necessary.

With the support of volunteer VI guides, you could either run, jog, walk or volunteer at the event. The fantastic 5K course around Avenham and Miller Park offers participants the opportunity to experience different terrains and meet like minded people local to you.

Parkrun is an event that occurs weekly across the country that gives all participants a sense of community and belonging no matter what their background.

The event starts at 9am and we will have a meeting point at Preston train station from 8 – 8:15am. Feel free to join us in the park’s café for a refreshment after the event.

“parkruns are designed to embrace and celebrate participation, regardless of your level of vision.

“This will be a positive experience for all, whether visually impaired or fully sighted. As well as the obvious health benefits, you will be involved in a supportive environment.

“There are no barriers that cannot be overcome to lead active fulfilling lives”

“We will have sighted guides available on the day and invite you to get involved in any way you’d like.

“I started parkrun a few years ago and it’s had a really positive effect on my life. It’s brilliant to now be able to share this with other blind and partially sighted people.

“So, come along and join us. You’ll love it – and even though it’s called parkrun you don’t have to run at all! It’s so good for your mental wellbeing to be outdoors and a really positive way to start your weekend.

“Whether you’re running, walking or volunteering you’ll have a guide at your side and we’ll all be there to support one another.”
