Tyne and Wear: Accessible Sport & Fitness project

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for blind or partially sighted people living in Tyne & Wear to support a project that aims to make accessing sport and fitness activities more inclusive for blind and partially sighted people.

You will have an interest in sport and fitness, be outgoing and willing to speak in front of groups of people.

Where is the role based and what equipment will I need?

You will be home-based, with the opportunity to attend meetings across North Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, and Sunderland.

You will have use of a PC, laptop or tablet device and reliable internet connectivity. The role will require you to use Microsoft, so you will be a confident user of word.

We will provide you with your own Sight Loss Council email address.

What will the project involve?

You will volunteer to raise awareness across the region of the importance of inclusivity in sport for blind and partially sighted people.

You will work with the Northeast Engagement Manager to collaborate with leisure centres across one or more boroughs of Tyne and Wear.

Your volunteer role will include using resources such as toolkit to help gyms make sport accessible.

What support is available to me?

The Northeast Engagement Manager will oversee all aspects of the project and provide regular catch-up sessions with you.  They will develop a plan with you that will contain milestones for the project.

Expenses incurred will be re-imbursed, in accordance with our Volunteer Expense Policy.

You will attend bi-monthly meetings of the Sight Loss Council to meet other members and update on the project.
