SLC member Clare Williams nominated to be 2022 Commonwealth baton bearer

Sight Loss Councils are excited and proud to announce that one of our wonderful members have been chosen to be a batonbearer for the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth games this summer. We asked batonbearer and West Midlands SLC member Clare Williams to share a few words about the nomination and her role as a Sight Loss Council volunteer:

I am proud to be a founding volunteer member of the Black Country Sight Loss Council. As a Sight Loss Council member, I take part in activities, campaigns and meetings where we discuss, plan and do things to make a difference for those with sight loss, educate the general public and lobby publicly to get things changed or improved. I love this work and am very happy to be part of a group that also enables and supports each other to do things they never thought possible. I also volunteer for Guide Dogs and was a volunteer interviewer for the Commonwealth Games Volunteers. I love a challenge and am happy to be a member of the Commonwealth Collective myself for the duration of the games this summer.

I was very excited to hear I had been nominated to be a Batonbearer in Birmingham as a participant in the Queens Baton relay for the Commonwealth Games this summer. I recently received an email telling me that I had been chosen for this honour, and I am so honoured and excited. Quita, my guide dog and I will carry the baton proudly for everyone with sight loss to celebrate just what we can do. The members of the Black Country and Birmingham SLCs have promised to be there to cheer me on!
