This is the dedicated page for the descriptions relating to the ‘Do You See What I See’ exhibition at Norwich Railway Station,

These descriptions are listed in order of appearance from the waiting room door starting on the left-hand wall and moving around the room to the right.

 Blue trees original

The picture depicts an abstract painting featuring three trees. The painting is in a vertical format, with a blue-grey background that seems to represent a sky or a horizon. The trees are painted in varying shades of brown, with some branches highlighted in lighter tones. There are also hints of green and yellow, suggesting the presence of foliage. The overall effect is one of tranquillity and serenity.

 Blue trees – Aleid

The image depicts a painting featuring several leafless trees against a blue sky. There are two distinct sets of trees, highlighting double vision. The trees are rendered in various shades of brown, with branches that extend upwards. The sky is painted in a gradient of blue, transitioning from a lighter shade at the top to a darker shade near the horizon. There is a hint of pinkish hue on the right side of the painting, adding a touch of warmth to the otherwise cool colour palette.

Blue trees – Sam

The picture depicts a painting that shows a large, bright orange circle with white dots scattered across its surface. The circle is surrounded by several dark, leafless tree branches that are positioned around the circle. The background is dark blue, with a hint of blue sky visible on the left side. The orange circle and trees combined look like blood vessels at the back of the eye or retina.

Closing in

The image depicts a serene sunset scene and replicates the loss of peripheral vision from the left side. In the foreground, a silhouette of a streetlight is partially visible, casting a warm glow on the water’s surface. The water is calm, reflecting the colors of the sky. The sky is filled with clouds that are illuminated by the setting sun, creating a mix of orange, pink, and purple hues. In the distance, a silhouette of land or an island can be seen, adding depth to the scene. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and tranquil, with the soft light of the sunset creating a beautiful and calming effect.

Tactile heritage station sign

The tactile sign in a heritage style for train stations is located under the photograph. The sign is white with a black boarder. The tactile element is braille and reads ‘Norwich’.

Raindrops have on window

The image depicts raindrops on a glass window in sharp focus with a blurred background of a red metal rail bridge and a river in the distance. This highlights very short sightedness. The raindrops are scattered across the glass, and the background is indistinct, likely due to the rain and the movement of the camera. The raindrops vary in size, with some larger and more prominent, while others are smaller and more numerous. The raindrops appear to be falling from the top of the window, and the glass is wet from the rain. The raindrops are reflecting the light, creating a shimmering effect on the glass.

Puzzle pieces

The image depicts a collage of different parts of a dog’s face. This replicates how people with patchy vision have to piece images together, often not quite matching up. The dog appears to be a Labrador Retriever, characterised by its soft, short coat, which is primarily light cream in colour. The dog’s ears are floppy, and its eyes are dark, with a calm and gentle expression. Its nose is prominently displayed in the centre of the collage, large and pink, with visible nostrils. The dog is wearing a collar with a guide dog tag, and part of its lead is visible. The background of the image is blurred, but it appears to be a grassy area, suggesting an outdoor setting.

Yel-low

The image depicts a close-up of a sunflower with parts a few other sunflowers around it. This highlights how colour vision is impacted by eye conditions and other medical conditions such as type 1 diabetes and low blood sugar levels. The petals are bright yellow, and the centre is a dark brown disc. The petals are arranged in a spiral pattern. The leaves are slightly curled. The leaves in the background are a mix of light and dark grey. The overall effect is a striking contrast between the vibrant yellow of the sunflower and the muted tones of the background.

Night-time light show

The image depicts a night scene with bright lines highlighting the patterns some people with Charles Bonnet Syndrome may see. It appears to be a long exposure photograph of a night-time road scene. It depicts various streaks of light that resemble trails of headlights from cars and other vehicles. The streaks of light are in different colors, predominantly yellow and white, with some red streaks as well. These streaks are elongated and wavy and start in a concentrated spot in the top left corner and dispersing down and outwards towards the right bottom corner. These appear to indicate motion over time. The background is dark, suggesting it is nighttime, with no other discernible objects or details visible in the scene.

Voids

The image depicts green foliage and demonstrates the voids people with patchy vision see. It shows a close-up of the leaves of a plant. The leaves are a vibrant shade of green, with a glossy surface and smooth edges. The leaves are arranged in a spiral pattern, with each leaf overlapping the one below it. The background is blurry, but it appears to be a wooden structure or fence. The leaves are illuminated by bright sunlight, casting a warm glow on the surrounding area.

Multi-vision

The image depicts a dog, possibly a Labrador Retriever, lying on the grass. It has a number of faded overlays with the dog’s face turned to each side. This replicates double vision or vision that makes things look like they are moving constantly. The dog is wearing a collar and is looking directly at the camera, the other two are facing towards the right and another to the left. The setting appears to be by a lake or a large body of water, with a cloudy sky overhead. The dog seems to be resting.

High speed blur

The image depicts a blurred landscape with tree branches. It highlights hazy or cloudy vision such as cataracts or the feeling of the scratchy sensation you get with dry eyes.  The branches are in various shades of brown, and they appear to be bare or with sparse foliage. The blurriness of the image suggests that it was taken from a moving vehicle or with a fast shutter speed, capturing the motion of the trees as they pass by. The sky above is partly cloudy, with patches of blue visible through the clouds. This image was taken on a moving train.

Workshop Anne

The picture depicts a painting with a minimalist composition. It features a collection of objects arranged in an abstract manner against a muted, light background. The objects include what appears to be a keyring with various Allen keys, a red object resembling a small ball or float, and a series of hanging items that could be tools or equipment. The painting has a soft, almost ethereal quality, with subtle gradients and a lack of sharp lines, contributing to its abstract nature.

Workshop Sam

The image depicts a painting of a tarantula spider climbing over the barrel of a gun, surrounded by other metal items hanging in a bunch. The spider is hanging upside down, suspended by a single thread of silk. The background is a textured, light-blue colour, suggesting a web near a wall. The spider is predominantly red and black, with orange and yellow markings on its legs. The painting captures the spider’s intricate details, including its eight legs and large, round abdomen. The overall composition is balanced, with the spider centred in the frame and the thread of silk leading the viewer’s eye upward. The painting conveys a sense of stillness and quiet, despite the contradiction with the gun barrel, other metal items and cool blue background.

Workshop original

The image depicts a painting that features a cluster of objects suspended from a hook. The objects are painted in various shades of black, grey, and yellow, with a prominent red object in the centre Resembling a ball or float. The background of the painting consists of vertical stripes in shades of grey and blue, suggesting a curtain or washed painted wall. The overall colour palette is muted, with a focus on the contrast between the red object and the cooler tones of the background.

Workshop Aleid

The image depicts a painting that features two cluster of objects suspended from a hook next to each other. The cluster on the right is slightly higher than the one on the left, highlighting double vision. The objects are painted in various shades of black, grey, and brown, with a prominent red object in the centre resembling a ball or float. The background of the painting consists of vertical stripes in shades of grey and cream, resembling a whitewashed wall. The overall colour palette is muted, with a focus on the contrast between the red object and the cooler tones of the background.

Iomani original

The picture depicts a narrow hallway or room. It features a wooden floor and white walls. There is a rectangular object painted in front of the wall on the right, possibly a piece of dark furniture or a shadow. Towards the left of the image and on the back wall of the room is a rectangular shape which could be an open window.

Iomani – Anne

The image depicts a blurred scene, which appears to be an abstract painting. It features a mixture of colours and shapes, with a focus on the interplay of light and shadow. The painting shows a dimly lit room with various shades of grey, black, and red. The room appears to be empty, with no distinct objects or furniture visible. The overall atmosphere of the painting is mysterious and enigmatic, inviting the viewer to explore the depths of its abstract forms and colours.

Iomani Sam

The image features an abstract painting with a central figure. The figure is predominantly white, with red and orange elements around it. The background is a blend of grey and blue tones with a black rectangular shape near the top left corner, this is possibly a window. The face seems to resemble that of a clown with a large red smile, the face is slightly obscured and is possibly looking through the door of the room towards the viewer.

Iomani Elizabeth

The picture depicts a close-up scene of a room with minimal details. The wall is painted in shades of grey and has a textured appearance, suggesting it might be an abstract representation. There is a piece of furniture, possibly a chair or a stool, painted in dark tones, positioned towards the top right corner near the wall. The floor area is painted in warm orange and red hues, creating a stark contrast with the cooler tones of the wall. The overall atmosphere of the scene is subdued and introspective, inviting the viewer to imagine the space and its purpose.
